The police often hear about prepaid card fraud before the industry does. They get calls from people who have been the victims of criminals. In the process of collecting the reports, they get information on how criminals perpetrate their scams. In this episode of the IPA Payments Pod, Innovative Payments Association (“IPA”) the association presents highlights from one its Financial Crimes Task Force calls. While recordings of these calls are normally posted for members only on our Web site, the Association and our guest, Chief Steven Lewis, thought it should be shared more broadly. Chief Lewis is the head of the Ellisville, Mo., Police Department. He described the kinds of fraud attacks that are reported to his department and discussed ways the industry and law enforcement might be able to work together to combat financial crimes involving prepaid cards. The Association is interested in finding ways to help prevent crime before it happens, and in solving crimes when they do. We invite interested parties to reach out with ideas and intelligence on financial crimes to help us in this work. Comments are closed.
