2007 IPA Proofing RoundUP Results
The 5th Annual IPA Proofing RoundUP was conducted during the IPA Technical Conference, June 5 – 7, 2007, Chicago, Illinois, USA. The objective of the Proofing RoundUP was to provide graphic solutions providers with a comprehensive understanding of available color proofing options and to identify key issues affecting color proofing.

Fourteen RoundUP companies, constituting a “Who’s Who” in the color proofing industry, submitted 34 systems for evaluation.

This year the tests were expanded to evaluate not only our community of proofing suppliers but also the proofing capabilities of the user community to understand the real-world state of proofing, and 64 end- users participated. The RoundUP also included evaluations of soft proofing systems for colorimetry and visual match to a press sheet, multi-channel ICC profiles, Pantone™ spot colors and Pantone™ tints. A JDF test was conducted, requiring suppliers to correctly interpret JDF instructions and create an imposition. We also evaluated the effectiveness of remote matching of hardcopy proofs.

2007 IPA Proofing RoundUP Webinar Now available on CD!

Substantial benefits to the industry will result from the 5th annual IPA Proofing RoundUP, led by Dr. Abhay Sharma, Ryerson University and a team of leading industry experts.

In addition to 34 systems submitted for testing by the world’s leading proofing manufacturers, 64 entries were received by a user community comprised of premedia, printers, creative agencies and other graphic solutions providers.

While suppliers achieved stellar results in hard proofing, users received mixed results. This Webinar will begin to address why users of today’s leading proofing systems passed–or failed, offering insight and analysis of the processes used by those who achieved superior results, and the missteps of those who did not.

WEBINAR REGISTRATION INCLUDES IN-DEPTH SPECIAL REPORT

Additional in-depth analysis will be provided in the comprehensive white paper to be published later this summer. All registrants will receive a free copy of the report upon publication.

In addition to the hard copy test results, the webinar will analyze test results in the quality assurance of soft proofing, remote hard copy proofing, multi-channel image processing, spot colors, and use of a JDF workflow in hard and soft copy proofing.

The Webinar reports…

  • Results of hard copy test results affirmed that in every case for both suppliers and users, a high level of quality and repeatability is achievable with the proper use of proofing processes and application data sheets.
  • Leading commercial softcopy proofing systems were evaluated and rated as comparable to hard copy proofing. The acceptance of a defined set of processes for measuring and comparing the colorimetry of soft proofing monitors will now serve to define the next generation of soft proofing standards and specifications.
