Illustrator’s application of creating and editing vector graphics has been a fundamental part of the creative workflow, being tightly integrated with the other components of Creative Suite. Like the other members of the Creative Suite, Illustrator CS3 has a new interface featuring streamlined palette management. In addition, emphasis has been placed on enhancing Illustrator’s performance both when navigating and drawing.

See how Illustrator now creates, applies, and edits colors—both for creative pros and for print professionals. The Live Color feature now lets you work with color in a variety of new ways. Creatives can discover new and unique color combinations with the Live Color dialog box. Production artists and printers will find new tools for recoloring artwork or reducing colors. Plus you’ll find productive new features for reducing color to spot color or grayscale and for adding used colors to the Swatches palette. Finally, you can color and retain spot colors for all type of Illustrator objects—knowing that they’ll separate the way you expect.

Illustrator CS3’s vector and selection tools have also been rethought. There are new improvements in how the selection of anchor points are made and in how anchor points are previewed. There are new controls on the Control panel for working with anchor points. There is a powerful vector eraser tool which works across layers. There are also more productive ways of working with groups and masks.

These and many more issues will be discussed including:

  • How your customers can now create print-ready files by using a new Document Profile for print output which includes the correct color mode and raster resolution.
  • Handling of symbols is more intuitive and efficient.
  • The Control Panel now adds new context-sensitive controls for working with clipping masks, envelopes, alignment, and selecting similar objects.
  • It’s now easier to select libraries of swatches, symbols, graphic styles and brushes.
  • There is now a color proxy beside each layer on the Layers palette so you can easily tell which layer an object is on.
  • There are enhancements to the Live Paint and Live Trace tools that were added in Illustrator CS2.
  • Import of Freehand files is greatly improved using libraries acquired with the merger with Macromedia.
