PDF and JDF are obviously not the same thing: PDF conveys the content of a job, while JDF conveys the intent for how the job will be produced. With the rise of short-run printing and the necessity to reduce the number of “touches” in your graphics workflow, automating as many of the job processes as possible is vital. Using the combined automation capabilities of PDF and JDF, the "no touch" workflow is now a reality.

Adobe Creative Suite and Acrobat 8 Professional provide the tools necessary to accomplish an efficient PDF-JDF workflow. If you simply send your customer your PDF presets and preflight profiles, there’s no way to know if they’ve used them, much less if they’ve used them correctly. To assure compliance, you create a PDF template in Acrobat 8 Professional (i.e. a digital job ticket) that will include an embedded PDF preset and preflight profile that will be run when the PDF file is created, and then passed on to you. It can even do “fix-ups” using Acrobat’s powerful new Preflight tool.

In this webinar, we’ll show you how to accomplish this process from start to finish: how using Creative Suite applications creates more reliable PDFs; how using Acrobat 8 Professional gives you the tools to correct PDF files to meet your workflow needs; and how to automate the entire process using a JDF template.

You’ll discover how the Adobe Creative Suite and Acrobat 8 Professional will facilitate the creation, preflighting and verification of reliable PDF files specifically targeted for your, and your customer’s, workflow system. You’ll learn how to create JDF templates that convey your customer’s job information that will truly match your PDF workflow.

Specific topics include:

  • Understanding the difference between PDF and JDF
  • JDF’s main features—information automation, process automation, and component communication
  • How JDF eliminates the #1 source of print errors
  • How JDF makes you more competitive—with other printers and with electronic media
  • How to set up a reliable PDF-JDF workflow
  • Acrobat 8 and Creative Suite PDF-JDF features
  • What kinds of jobs make the most sense for using a JDF template
