    IPA Proofing Marketplace Study

    Discover your proof provider’s
    ability to match standard tolerances

    To Designers/Creatives/Agencies;
Do you find the final printed product often doesn’t match the image as it was created on your monitor? This is frustrating if you have actually calibrated your monitors and asked your print service provider to print to a standard printing condition like GRACoL or SWOP. It is especially frustrating if the proof doesn’t even match your monitor. What can be done?

    Help us find the answers
IPA, the association of graphic solutions providers, is conducting a test to determine the real-world conditions of proofing in today’s marketplace. This test is one of many IPA is conducting as part of the IPA Proofing RoundUP, being conducted at the IPA Technical Conference, being held June 8-10, 2009, in Rosemont, IL.

IPA is asking print buyers to request from their print service providers a proof made to GRACoL or SWOP specifications. Buyers will submit to their providers a specially prepared file and upon receipt of the proof, complete a brief visual evaluation and forward to IPA for technical measurement. After measuring the proof, IPA will reveal privately to the print buyer if their proof provider is matching their desired specifications.

What is the value of the study?
If you want to learn all that can be done to make your monitor match the proof and the final printed job, you’ll want to participate in this exciting evaluation…and then attend the IPA Technical Conference to discover how to assure quality and efficiency in your media production.

    How will it work?

    1. Register to participate in the Proofing Marketplace Study.
    2. Download the especially prepared test file and instructions by May 15.
    3. Submit the file to your regular print or prepress service provider for proofing.
    4. Upon receipt, mail the proof to IPA, 552 W. 167th Street, South Holland, IL 60473 (708) 596-5110.
    5. IPA will return a “Validation Certificate” indicating whether your proof matched its designated print condition and is within standard tolerances.
    6. Both buyers and service providers gather at the 2009 IPA Technical Conference to learn complete results of this and other tests being conducted in the IPA Proofing RoundUP.
    What will it cost?
Buyers are responsible for costs of proof production and shipment of completed proof to IPA. There are no additional costs for participation.

    What will I receive?
Participants will receive a detailed written analysis of their proof provider’s ability to match standard tolerances, along with complete written results of all tests being conducted in the 2009 IPA Proofing RoundUP. Participants will also receive $100 credit towards registration to the 2009 IPA Technical Conference. (www.ipa.org/tech)
