    To accompany this web page is a document that describes each procedure in more detail. If you need help, suppliers are urged to consult the Procedures & Protocols document as they work through the tests. See home page

    All of these tests are to be printed on NewPage Futura Laser, 100lb text, gloss coated.

    Suppliers are expected to print all tests on a single device/system.

    1. Visual Images (2500 copies)

    INSTRUCTIONS: Download pages 1 and 2. On Page 1 put your company logo and device name in the space left for this purpose. Print 2500 copies of page 1 and 2, duplexed. This page will be included in the final publication. Please do not shuffle or disturb these pages, they will be used to measure consistency over the press run. The variation in the press run will be measured from the large patches on the bottom left of Page 2 (identified above) using an X-Rite 939 with UV included. It is not necessary to cut paper to letter size, original 12 x 18" can be submitted as we can trim with cover during binding of final book.

    2. Pantone and Technical Images (2500 copies)

    INSTRUCTIONS: Download page 3. This is to be duplexed with page 4. On Page 3 put your company logo and device name in the space left for this purpose. Page 3 contains Pantone Goe values as labelled items. Pantone Goe books have been sent to you, courtesy of Pantone. The Pantone Goe colors on Page 3 should be printed to match the swatch book sent to you. We will measure each patch from your submission using an X-Rite 939 with UV included. We will take 4 measurement from your sample and another 4 measurements from our Pantone Goe book and compare the average of these two data sets using Delta E(ab). Page 4 is the Resometer test image. You should own this eps file and RIP it and print it as appropriate for your device. If you are unable to process the eps file you are able to obtain a pdf file at a pre-determined resolution. Duplex pages 3 and 4. This page will be included in the final publication. It is not necessary to cut paper to letter size, original 12 x 18" can be submitted as we can trim with cover during binding of final book.

    3. IT8.7/4 - Full Gamut

    INSTRUCTIONS: This is an untagged, CMYK tiff image. Print this image with device calibration, substrate calibration but NO color management. This form has the words "Full Gamut" on it to distinguish from other similar tests. This form is intended to determine the full color capabilities of the device, so the form should not be limited by any printing condition. Please turn off all color management. Print 2 forms in one direction and 2 forms reversed 180 degrees. Do not re-size the image, do not crop the image. The printed size of each patch should measure 6 x 6 mm. This form will be measured on an X-Rite iSis XL, with UV excluded.
    SIZE: Print on any size sheet - fits on page size 11 x 17".

    INSTRUCTIONS: This form has specified coverage and will be used to determine deinking parameters. Print this form with no color management. There is a requirement to verify the speed of your press. Use this press run to confirm the speed of your press. Have an independent witness verify the time it took to print a specific number of sheets. Here is a perfect example statement made by an observer of the Xeikon entry in 2008.
    SIZE: US Letter (This form is available as A4, but we need to control the weight and coverage, so all participants must use Letter size.) Simplex printing.

    9. Light Fastness

Print this form so that the "blocks" are not contaminated, maybe do not use color management. The height of the vertical CMYK bars should be approximately 5" when printed.

    10. Folding and Cracking

    11. Uniformity

    INSTRUCTIONS: This is a CMYK pdf with 3 pages of an even gray tint. The values on the 3 pages are (20,15,15,15), (40,30,30,30) and (65,50,50,50). The tint is intended to fill the printable area of the printer. The printed form will be measured in 9 locations to determine print uniformity.
    SIZE: 12 x 18" or similar. Simplex printing.

    12. Repeatability from Day 1 to Day 2

    INSTRUCTIONS: This is a pdf test file from IDEAlliance. Print this form on subsequent days with around 24 hours between the first and second print. The machine should be warmed-up and if necessary can be recalibrated. Use an in-RIP "slug line" to auto imprint the date on the print. The primary and secondary color solids and primary color mid-tones will be measured.
    SIZE: 12 x 17", simplex printing.

    INSTRUCTIONS: A single page (11 x 17") pdf test file with a single Letter page is provided. Print this duplex on a 11 x 17" sheet of paper. Arrange the imposition such that the page is printed duplex, but the front and back are printed such that each "page" has white backing. This test will be used to determine if the engine has consistent duplex printing. This is the same image as Test 1, Page 1.
    SIZE: 11 x 17", duplex printing.
